About Us

kanthari in Trivandrum, Kerala, South of India, offers a 12-month, scholarship-based leadership program for visionaries who have overcome adversity and who are keen to drive ethical social change anywhere in the world. kanthari equips participants with all tools that are required to start and run an own NGO / social enterprise or social venture.

We believe in a flat hierarchy where everyone on our team takes responsibility and ownership of their duties and works in harmony with the rest of the team. We all strive to do whatever it takes to work smoothly towards bringing positive social change in all corners of the world. We do not look at it as having a job, but rather a calling. The 23 strong member team, which includes the administration, the academic team, kitchen, housekeeping, and security all make sure that the 20-25 international change-makers that attend the course every year get the best kanthari has to offer.

Job Summary

The IT/Media Coordinator at kanthari must handle all duties related to:
- System administration (upkeep and configuration of hardware, software, server, wireless, kanthari website etc. ensuring the reliable and smooth operation)
- Support, troubleshoot, advise and implement policies and practices on all computer technology related matters concerning both staff and participants
- Support the curriculum in terms of transferring IT and Media skills to the participants

The IT/Media Coordinator must be a problem solver, a lifelong learner, take full ownership of computer tech matters on campus, and share the vision of kanthari and understand its work culture.

Requirements IT/Media coordinator kanthari

  1. Implementation and maintenance of BWB-kanthari technology including computer hardware, software, network, wireless, server, data protection, backup systems, etc.
  2. Basic technical support and training to participants and staffs.
  3. Wherever relevant, providing support to Curriculum.
  4. Organizing and making sure that data on server is clean and structured.
  5. Keeping BWB-kanthari informed about developments of relevant hardware/software and advising on technology acquisition; Make sure that software used by kanthari members is legal.
  6. Find free and open source alternatives for paid software.
  7. Documentation and implementation of IT Policies and practices.
  8. Continuous maintenance of all IT equipment, that all equipment is ready to be used all times.
  9. Documentation of any project related research.
  10. Maintenance of all I.T and related Technical assets register/inventory
  11. Advice on web-services especially accessibility.
  12. Ensuring smooth access to internet and interacting with Telephone service providers to rectify complaints.
  13. Weekly info bite report and planning.
  14. Organizing and participating in kanthari events
  15. Providing sufficient visibility for kanthari course through all social media and local media.
  16. Helping Participants to getting their own website up and running. Arrange all registration and hosting.
  17. Creating video, audio, print and any other materials to facilitate the kanthari course.
  18. Assisting with kanthari course work and support of admin and academic teams
  19. Any other kind of activity which is necessary for the success of the BWB-kanthari course.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Maintain all local software and hardware licensing to ensure conformance.
  • Troubleshoot problems with systems and programs.
  • Upgrade existing hardware and software programs. Troubleshooting network related issues
  • Manage data backup and retrieval processes.
  • Inform management about industry innovations and recommend relevant upgrades.
  • Maintain and secure passwords, file system security and data integrity for desktop and server environments.
  • Maintain and update documentation of procedures and configurations.
  • Assess existing network servers, operating systems and security programs.
  • Assist end users with general computer operation and desktop application software questions and problems.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve network connectivity issues, including backup/restore functions and virus/malware protection.
  • Maintain organized storage and detailed inventory records for equipment, accessories, and software.
  • Install, update, monitor, configure and maintain organisation computer hardware/peripherals, and standard software to assure all are functioning properly.

Required:

  • Basic knowledge in Networking Concepts.
  • Should have knowledge on installation, configuration and maintenance Windows, Linux and Mac OS.
  • Should have experience in Firewall Management.
  • Responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.
  • Troubleshooting network related issues (Both configuration and hardware).
  • Perform daily system monitoring, availability of all hardware, server resources, systems.
  • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions.
  • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required.
  • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, configure / add new services as necessary.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Implements, installs, configures, monitors, trouble shoots and evaluates existing and new operating systems.
  • Keep a track of IT assets in an excel sheet.
  • Knowledge about Ubuntu based server management (ZENTYAL).
  • Knowledge about cPanel configuration and management.
  • Development and maintenance of CMS websites based on WordPress.
  • Knowledge about PA Sound system.
  • Good English communication skills verbal and writing.

Good to have

  • Knowledge in PHP applications
  • Knowledge in HTML and CSS
  • Basic photography and videography skills
  • Social media management
